Jabulani Challenge

Saturday 2nd April, 2022
Bobbin Head, NSW

That’s right, we are good to go!

After an extensive check of the course today, including seeing first hand the work NPWS are doing to help make the event go ahead, we are excited to announce that the Jabulani Challenge is all set to proceed this Saturday.

With rain forecast on and off for the rest of this week, and on Saturday, you can expect to get your shoes wet – but this is trail running, don’t let damp socks stop you!

NPWS crews have been out on the course today clearing fallen trees, and they are scheduled to continue this work all week. To give NPWS the best opportunity to clear the course by Saturday, and to ensure the best experience for all runners, we have made the following decisions:

  • the 22km and 12km courses remain unchanged, including trail favourites the Warrimoo and Gibberagong tracks.
  • the 45 km course will change, see details below.

While the trails will be wet underfoot, and you may need to navigate around some new obstacles, we know many of you have been looking forward to and training for the Jabulani Challenge. We don’t want anyone to miss out on the opportunity, so get your gear ready and we will see you on the start line!

If there are any further updates we will let you all know as they come to hand, otherwise keep an eye out for the Last Minute Info Newsletter later this week including the pre-race safety briefing video.

We look forward to seeing you all out on course this Saturday!

45km Course Change

Following consultation with NPWS, we have made the decision to change the 45km course for this coming weekend. This decision was made to avoid the trails most impacted by downed trees and the trails most overgrown following the recent rainfall. This also means NPWS can focus their efforts on making sure the course is in the best shape it can be for this weekend.

The 45km course this weekend will be shortened slightly (by around 500m) with runners completing two loops of the 22km course. Still starting and finishing at Bobbin Head runners will be able to enjoy the scenic trails along Cowan Creek and past Gibberagong Waterholes, while the loss of the climb out of Warrimoo Creek is replaced by a second climb up to the Sphinx.

This course also removes the need for any out and back sections which, with the recent growth in the vegetation, would have been quite tricky on the narrow trails.

An additional Aid Station will be in place at Bobbin Head (at the halfway point) and you will visit the Aid Stations at the Sphinx and Grovesnor St twice. Meaning five Aid Stations in total: at the 6km, 16km, 22km, 28km and 38km points.  If you finish the first lap and decide not to continue you will be awarded a 22km finish. With this late change in the course their will be no mid-race time cutoffs, all runners are to be off the course by 3pm as per normal.

We are confident the new course won’t disappoint, in fact it might be even better than the original!
